What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin yet impressively strong plates of porcelain that are custom-made to be glued to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance and color. Along with being extremely stain-resistant, porcelain veneers typically cost less and are less invasive than bridges, crowns, or other types of cosmetic dentistry. While every patient has their own sets of needs, porcelain veneers so are a great choice if you have minor tooth problems that you'd like to fix affordably.

Generally speaking, veneer procedures do not require anesthesia and can be fully applied in two visits, spaced a few weeks apart. The porcelain material is strong and durable enough to last ten or fifteen years, and since they virtually don't stain, they're a great solution for dark or discolored teeth. If you’re interested but worried your smile won’t look natural, worry no more—new manufacturing techniques allow these porcelain veneers to copy the translucence and color of natural teeth, so they look even more natural than ever before.

Porcelain Veneer Procedure

At Anderson Dental in Royal Palm Beach, we treat every patient with gentle care in preparation for their dental procedure. The dental veneer procedure is often able to be completed over the course of six weeks, over two visits. The first step in getting your porcelain veneers is to schedule a visit to our dentist office that specializes in veneer dentistry for an evaluation of your teeth. It’s important that you have adequate gum health and bone structure for veneers and that there aren’t lingering dental issues that should be taken care of first.

Upon your first visit in the process of applying your porcelain veneers, the dentist will remove a very thin layer of enamel from your teeth. Then, impressions will be made for the construction of your permanent veneers. Once impressions are complete, you’ll be fitted with a temporary restoration to help provide an idea of the shape and color you and the dentist desire before the permanent one is placed. On the second visit, the temporary restoration will be removed and your teeth will be coated in bonding glue to make way for the placement of your permanent porcelain veneers.

Benefits of Getting Porcelain Veneers

Although cosmetic dentistry is more known for improving confidence and benefitting the appearance of your smile, there are many benefits to porcelain veneers like their added protective qualities and the potential elimination of expensive future dental maintenance.

If you have worn enamel, veneers are a great way for correcting smiles affected by years of consuming soft drinks, tea or coffee, and smoking. While genetics also play a crucial role in the wear and tear your teeth experience as you age, veneers also restore chips, cracks, and generally uneven teeth that can cause grinding which can lead to jaw issues.
